Edition IV - February, 2025

Vayu - Connecting Nepalis Across the Globe

Dear Members of TGND,

As we kick off 2025, TGND is reflecting on last year’s successes and challenges while gearing up for exciting new initiatives. In this edition, we highlight key learnings from 2024, recent events on aviation safety and fintech socials, and upcoming opportunities like the Diaspora Mapping Project and our Virtual Job Fair.

Founder’s Note 🖋️

Hi everyone!

I hope all of you enjoyed the year-end holiday season and the slow start to 2025. At TGND, the break allows us to reset – reflect on what has worked in the past year and what hasn’t....and plan for the year ahead.

Here are some thoughts on the successes & failures of 2024 -

What worked:

  • Hundreds of volunteers pass through TGND every year and it has been a joy to see their growth and be a part of their respective journeys. We remain grateful for each and every one.

  • Bigger, marquee events have done well. TGND Summit, panels on Entrepreneurship, etc. have created a buzz and generated interest & engagement from our community. TGND Summit had 70+ attendees and incredible speakers like Dr. Purna Subedi, Dr. Sameer Maskey, and many more.

What hasn’t worked:

  • Not all chapters or hubs have had events or activities. While it is hard to predict which locations or sectors will gain momentum, it is always exciting to see activities and not-so-exciting when events halt or pause.

These learnings aside, we are excited to bring you bigger, better events and showcase these initiatives for 2025:

  • Aviation Safety in Nepal

  • Diaspora Mapping Project

  • Startup Founders Forum

  • Virtual Job Fair

If you haven’t done so already, do join TGND and help us shape our community.

Best regards,
- Preeti

Aviation Safety Podcast

On Jan 15, TGND recorded its first in-person podcast in collaboration with SpeakUp to talk about aviation safety in Nepal. SpeakUp is a civil engagement and digital petition startup based in Nepal and the two organizations have been collaborating over the last few months. While this episode will be published in a few weeks, you can learn about the aviation safety initiative from this earlier podcast episode for TGND Beats.

Fintech Socials
On Jan 23, Fintech Alliance Nepal hosted a fireside chat with TGND Founder Preeti Adhikary. The event was moderated by Sneh Rajbhandari from Coca-Cola Nepal. The event was attended by fintech entrepreneurs and the conversation focused on the diaspora’s perspective, the role of TGND & MomoVC to support Nepali founders, and the potential of the tech ecosystem of Nepal.
