Vayu - Connecting Nepalis Across the Globe
Dear Members of TGND,
February’s edition is about coming back to what makes a community real. After a brief pause, TGND is reopening doors to in-person gatherings, new cities, and fresh leadership while continuing to create space for meaningful conversations, global connections, and shared growth. From student stories that reshaped access to education, to diaspora networking across Europe, to renewed collaboration with embassies and partners, this month reflects a simple truth: when people come together with purpose, momentum follows. As 2026 unfolds, we’re excited to build, reconnect, and grow alongside you.
Founder’s Note 🖋️
Hi everyone!
A community is the gathering place where people connect, build relationships and support each other. Since 2022, TGND has been that SAFE place (symbolically and in reality) where students and professionals with roots in Nepal have come together to network, build long-term relationships and have fun.
Our volunteers have been the foundation for this important work. After a break, we are restarting in-person events and want to invite volunteers who want to serve the community as Chapter Leaders. If you’re interested in starting a community in your city/country, do fill out the form here.
We have a lot of exciting things to look forward to this year. I hope you will join me in celebrating our unique identity as we strive towards professional excellence in our chosen careers.
Best regards,
Preeti
Diaspora Webinar Series 👩🏻💻
Inside the 2018 Scholarship Scandal That Launched a Global Movement
On Jan 14, 8 pm EST (Jan 15, 6.45 am Nepal time), #TGND hosted a webinar with an organisation that was founded on the back of a 2018 scandal that affected 60 Nepali students who had their full scholarships revoked by a US university. Second Chance stepped in then to place these students on full scholarships at universities around the world, and continues to do so every year by supporting brilliant students at the last minute.
This webinar was a chance to:
Learn about the crisis in 2018 and the unexpected resolution
Hear from the students who were caught up in the scandal, and where they are now
See the work Second Chance does each year with similarly brilliant Nepali (and other) students

Podcast🎙️
While this is an old episode, listen here to learn about the vision of the Great Nepali Diaspora. A lot has evolved over the last few years, but the basics are the same. Do share your feedback!
Chiya Break ☕
Some things don’t need an introduction, like a good cup of chiya.
Nepal Tea Collective’s Himalayan Masala Chiya is made with whole spices and high-altitude black tea, the slow and proper way. Made by our Nepali farmers, it’s inspired by home and tastes like the chiya many of us grew up with, warming, fragrant, and quietly grounding.
Best enjoyed hot, preferably while reading this newsletter.

Events 🗓️
Past Events:
Visit to the Embassy of Nepal in London - Jan 26
Preeti Adhikary, the Founder of TGND, visited the Embassy of Nepal and met with the Charge d’ Affairs Mr. Bipin Duwadi and the Military Attache Mr Anup Shah. The conversation focused on The Great Nepali Diaspora (network of global Nepali professionals) and Momo VC (US-based, early-stage #venturecapital fund for underrepresented #founders) and how these organisations can align with the embassy’s mandates.
TGND has been working with the US Embassy of Nepal in Washington DC, as well as the Consulate of Nepal in New York, over the last few years to help these entities conduct economic diplomacy and act as trade and investment bridges between the two countries.
We plan to get involved in the Embassy of Nepal (London)’s event this summer on investment in Nepal and leveraging the diaspora.

Embassy TGND/Momo VC Networking event in Paris - Jan 27
20 students and professionals from diverse fields joined the FIRST networking event in Paris on Jan 27. The informal gathering included Preeti, Founder of TGND and other members of the diaspora who shared about the challenges of living abroad, like language barrier, loneliness and lack of networks.
Upcoming Events:
Scaling innovations (Nepal), Feb 13, 2026
US Embassy Nepal/Aadyanta Advisory, along with Amcham Nepal and SecurityPal AI, are hosting an event under the initiative - Scaling Innovations Dialogue: “Building a Cohesive, Elevated Brand Narrative for Nepal’s Tech Sector”. Preeti Adhikary will be one of the panellists for this dialogue series.
This session is part of a Scaling Innovations Dialogue Series, supported by the U.S. Embassy Nepal, focused on helping Nepali tech and AI ventures become more competitive in global markets. Through targeted monthly dialogues, the series brings founders, investors, and ecosystem leaders together to build shared understanding on what actually needs to change—capabilities, partnerships, signals, narratives, and capital—so Nepal can move from emerging potential to credibility at scale.
Bato Summit (Finland), Mar 13, 2026
This half-day event titled “Building the Nepali entrepreneurial mindset” hopes to bring Nepali (and non-Nepali) founders, investors and experts from Finland and the region and help build a global tech ecosystem for Nepali entrepreneurs. Book you ticket here.
